Return to search results GamblerColette Urban. Gambler 1998. Installation at the Surrey Art Gallery. Steel table, audio, and puzzle pieces. Performance artist Colette Urban takes an interest in popular entertainments and games. Her interactive sculpture Gambler is set up to allow individuals and groups to play the game of puzzle. It consists of an 8 x 8-foot table heaped with pieces from second-hand puzzles. The ambient sound is of recorded noises from the Bingo Hall. As Barbara Fischer puts it, "all around the edge of the table, patches of assembled images, patches of sense, offer a glimpse of the determination and the compulsion to work against that state of dissolution... this quest for achievement is underscored by the Bingo Hall noises."
