Highlights of the Mount Saint Vincent University Collection

Now Appearing
Mount Saint Vincent University opened its Art Gallery in 1971. The University’s permanent collection, at the time consisting mainly of china-painted wares and pottery by Alice Egan Hagen, became the responsibility of the Art Gallery.

The collection has since been augmented by purchases and gifts. Most of the works acquired since 1971 are by artists who have taken part in the MSVU Art Gallery exhibition program, many in the early stages of their careers.

Today, the collection is composed primarily of contemporary works by Canadian artists. There are approximately 700 works in total. This section of the msvuart website provides information about selected works from the collection, and is gradually being augmented. It is searchable by various criteria, including artist’s name, artists with Nova Scotian connections, title of work, medium, date of work and date of acquisition. Each entry includes a link to a PDF which can be easily downloaded or printed.

Please contact the Art Gallery to request print-quality image files.
