Gift of the artist, 2006. Local artists Dan O’Neill and George Steeves recently made substantial donations to the University Collection. To showcase the new acquisitions while exploring affinities between the respective bodies of work, Chemistry presents fine photographic prints by Steeves, hand-pulled lithographs by O’Neill, and figurative sculpture lent by the Newfoundland ceramicist Reed Weir. Each artist’s process involves complex chemical interactions and demands technical knowledge of chemistry — and the resulting works of art incorporate a whiff of chemistry’s alternative sense — the attraction or interaction between people.
