Participating artists are given access to over-stocked catalogues published by MSVU Art Gallery, as raw material for the creation of new work. Dahms shreds and soaks pages from these catalogues to create a pulp, and combines this with plaster of Paris to set into a mold. The resulting positive frieze mimics archaeological discoveries. In Sway, Dahms invites the viewer to consider the interpretation of history by giving physical form to the exhibition times represented by these catalogues. Like unearthed ruins, these catalogues are traces of moments that have passed. Please note that Library hours differ from those of the gallery.
