Return to search results François Lacasse: OutpouringsFrançois Lacasse, Grandes pulsions XIII 2008 acrylic and ink on canvas François Lacasse paints in series, using the viscosity of poured paint to build latticed and interlocking planes of colour. His experiments with process are retraced in this retrospective by the inclusion of twenty paintings dating from 1988 to 2008. The exhibition demonstrates Lacasse's gradual abandonment of figuration and quotation, and his growing interest in the process aspects of abstract painting. Though the prominence of gesture in his works links him to American abstract paintings of the 1950s, his use of measuring instruments and pouring involve physicality in a new way. A major figure among Québec painters, Lacasse teaches art at the Université du Québec à Montréal. ARTIST’S TALK and OPENING RECEPTION Exhibition Images Click on an image to enlarge it. |
