Return to search results Rubbish, RubbishZeke Moores Boxes 2010 bronze photo courtesy of the artist The exhibition’s title struck its curator when he observed stacked cardboard boxes on a curb, each labelled Rubbish. First finding it humorously coincidental, Hancherow then realized that the deliberate arrangement of the stacked boxes had given them significance proportional to the worthlessness of their contents. In a similar fashion, each artist in this exhibition transforms the viewers’ perception of cardboard boxes as merely utilitarian and disposable. The participating artists are Chris Foster (Halifax), Lorenzo Pepito (Vancouver), Roula Partheniou (Toronto), Kate Walchuk (Halifax), and Zeke Moores (Windsor, Ontario). Using bricolage, trompe-l’oeil and replication to represent boxes in a new light, the artists push the boundary between art and everyday objects. Their proficiency results in illusions so perfect that viewers do a double take. Opening Reception Opens jointly with Lisette Model: A Performance in Photography on Saturday 15 October, from 6 to 10pm on the occasion of Nocturne. Artits & Curator Talk at 5pm, Stefan Hancherow and exhibiting artists will give a brief talk in the exhibition space. Exhibition Images Click on an image to enlarge it. |
