Pollet-Brannen’s provocative garments are part sculpture, part satire.
Incorporating found materials such as discarded shoes, the artist
creates what she describes as an “anti-fashion statement.” Notions of
haute couture are deformed, mutilated, and mutated to create a
gender-bending “Travesty of Fashion.”

Flounces and bustles are paired with codpieces, shoe leather with
clownish polka dots, wooden clogs are painted with disco-themed
designs— the eclecticism running through the work subverts traditional
costuming. Flesh is a carnival of wearable collage, wedding the
beautiful with the grotesque.

Opening Reception Meet the artist and her wildly attired
models on Saturday, 2 November 2013, 3pm to 5pm

WORKSHOPS
Join Artist in Residence, Arianne Pollet-Brannen, for one of two hands-on afternoons in the Art Gallery (Seton 209) creating wearable art using salvaged and recycled materials. Anyone can register, free of charge.

Workshop # 1: Leather Rose Making. Turn discarded leather scraps into gorgeous decorative flowers. These colourful flowers can be converted into brooches or shoe accessories with the addition of a safety pin/clip— perfect for holiday gift-giving. Materials provided. Saturday, 16 November, 13:30 to 15:30. Limit 10 participants. Sign up by Thursday 14 November.

Workshop #2: Costume Collage. Participants will creatively transform half-finished jackets provided by the artist, using salvaged materials such as cloth, leather, wires, twigs, bottle caps and so on. Attachment techniques will include hand sewing, pinning, tying and gluing. Bring any scrap materials that you have hanging around to incorporate into these outrageous garments. Saturday, 23 November, 13:30 to 15:30. Limit 10 participants. Sign up by Thursday, 21 November.

Registration required, please contact Susan Wolf, program coordinator, 457-6291 or susan.wolf@msvu.ca
