Sarindar Dhaliwal

Born in Birbansian, in the Punjab, India, and educated in England and Canada, Sarindar Dhaliwal now lives in Toronto, where she teaches drawing and painting at the Ontario College of Art & Design. In Dhaliwal’s work, the experience of moving among cultures emerges as a continuous process of self-making. Through a combination of symbols such as turbans, powdered pigments and eggs, the process of forging identity specific to the South Asian diaspora finds expression. Dhaliwal’s blend of storytelling, painting and textile installations results in a vibrant, lush and exotic exhibition that is both visually compelling and poetically evocative.
