Frances Dorsey

Frances Dorsey earned an MFA from the University of Michigan after graduating from the Ontario College of Art & Design, and is currently on the faculty at NSCAD University. Too much science fiction reading at an impressionable age, combined with an obsession with death and destruction, inform much of her practice. Dark themes are belied by the vibrancy of the work, which is based in textiles, both dye and print, and also weaving. Past work, exhibited across Canada as well as in the United States, Australia and Korea, focused on World War II and the writing and images of her father, a decorated combat veteran. More recently she has been excavating childhood memories of life in Saigon. Ironically, this remembered paradise surfaces in her dreams just in time for global warming.
