Wilma Needham

Wilma Needham was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario where this Wonder of the World influenced her thinking on beauty, danger and kitsch. She acquired a BFA at York University, then studied at the Banff Centre for the Arts before obtaining her MFA from NSCAD University. After graduating from the MFA programme she worked in the Art department at the Banff Centre and returned to Halifax in 1982 to teach in the Media Arts Division at NSCAD. Trained as a printmaker, Wilma has included a range of materials and processes in her work, with a special interest in textiles. Her work focuses primarily on the local, the gendered, and issues of cultural identity.
