Geri Nolan-Hilfiker

Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, in 1957, Geri Nolan-Hilfiker is an experimental photographer of landscape and the natural world. She enjoys pinhole photography because of the unconventional relationship between photographer and camera: “Without a viewfinder to compose the image you need to trust what the camera will see on your behalf. Working with a pinhole camera is as close to drawing with light as you can get.” An interest in cultural anthropology also inspires her work, whose hyperreal effects result, in part, from pinhole’s characteristically auratic registration of light. Nolan-Hilfiker lives in Summerville, Nova Scotia.
