James MacSwain

was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia and graduated with a BA in English from Mount Allison University. Since 1973 he has lived in Halifax, working mainly as an arts administrator in the artist-run centre milieu. As an instructor in media art production he has taught at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University, the Centre for Art Tapes, the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative, and numerous workshops in the public school system and art courses in various community centres.

His visual art has been shown in several Far and Wide exhibitions sponsored by Visual Arts Nova Scotia; Re-Make, Re-Model, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (Peter Dykhuis, Curator); and the Bookmark Project, Koffler Gallery, Toronto, 2006. As a member of the Bloomfield Collective his art work was included in the collective show at FRED Café in 2006. In 2005, MacSwain’s films and videos were included in a retrospective mounted at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and sponsored by the Centre for Art Tapes.
